About Julie Speer
With over 30 years of experience in the creative and visual merchandising industries, Julie has always had a passion for creating exciting, imaginative and memorable spaces.
She studied at St Martin’s School of Art in London in the 1980s before beginning her career as a Visual Merchandiser at Topshop, Oxford Circus. She went on to work with well-known names including John Lewis Oxford Street, Marks & Spencer, Wallis Fashion Group and the Cloth Show, gaining extensive experience in visual merchandising, styling, exhibitions, POS, set design, prop making and events.
After taking time away from the industry to bring up her children, she returned to the creative world through her work in a local school. She now works closely with students and staff, helping to create school exhibitions, art shows, events and theatre productions, including Alice in Wonderland, Bugsy Malone, Wicked and Little Shop of Horrors. She particularly enjoys designing and making props, sets and visual displays, and helping turn creative ideas into reality.
Her latest project brings many of these skills together through the creation of her team's Halloween walk-through experience. Following the success of their smaller event last year, they are now expanding the experience to create two separate Halloween events — one for children and families and another for adults.
From set design and props to atmosphere, storytelling and the visitor journey, Julie loves creating environments that allow people to step into another world. Her aim is to make the Halloween experience fun, imaginative, atmospheric and memorable, with something special for everyone who comes through the door.
For her, it is all about creating, making and bringing ideas to life.
